Packing a hand carry bag has become a huge challenge for most Filipinos. Many of us will ask what are the items allowed and not allowed as well as the hand-carry size and weight.
Before going through a security check, remember these 5 things that you can't bring for a hassle-free flight.
#1 - Liquids over 100ml or 3.4oz.
This could be a bottle of shampoo, lotion, or skincare products.
Containers bigger than 100ml is still a no-go even if they are almost empty. Pro-tip, bring the travel-sized toiletries that hotels provided.
#2 - Bottled water bought outside the pre-departure area.
Remember to empty your water bottles before going through security check. You can still refill them in a water station inside most airports.
#3 - Big umbrellas
Philippines is a tropical country where an umbrella, the bigger the better, is considered essential. But airlines are strict to these due to its sharp and pointed parts. They must be put in your checked baggage, if they fit. But worry not, because small and foldable umbrellas are now allowed to be carried in your carry-on baggage.
#4 Lighters, matches, and other explosive materials
There are a lot of lighters already in the airport security. Airlines remind people to buy one when they reach their destination to be safe. Know that most, if not all, are non-smoking aircraft, so lighters and matches are to be confiscated.
Sharp and explosive materials are also not allowed.
#5 - Sporting equipment
No matter how excited you are to surf with your surfboard in Siargao, or to dive with your diving gears in Cebu, or just play tennis with friends, you have to check the equipment during check-in. They are not allowed as carry-on.
